Pumas UNAM goalkeeper Alejandro “Píkolin II” Palacios was taken to a Puebla-area hospital yesterday after suffering a head injury in a collision with his twin brother, defender Marco Antonio Palacios, during Pumas’s game against Puebla.
The brothers collided while contesting an aerial ball following a free kick, with Marco accidentally elbowing Alejandro in the face. The goalkeeper was treated on the field for several minutes before leaving the game in the 54th minute on a stretcher. Since he had briefly lost consciousness, he was taken immediately to the hospital.
Around midnight, Pumas reported that “our goalkeeper, Alejandro Palacios Redorta, is OUT OF DANGER after a blow to the head. He is currently traveling to Mexico City, where he will spend the night in a hospital for observation.”
According to a further update, Palacios suffered a concussion and will be out for approximately ten days. Alfredo Saldívar will take over in goal during Palacios’s absence.
