A 1-1 draw in the first leg made today’s game a winner-takes-all affair. The visitors struck first, with Roberto Nurse giving Mineros the 0-1 lead in the 30th minute. However, the Universidad de Guadalajara tied the game moments later through Jorge Mora, whose solo play ended in a goal.
Mineros looked the stronger side in the second half and they threw numbers forward in search of a second goal. Leones Negros, who would have advanced with the 1-1 (2-2) scoreline due to the higher seed tiebreaker, looked to protect the score.
Mineros’ pressure paid off, though, and in the 85th minute they found their reward. After a series of rebounds, Nurse appeared to knock the ball home and give Zacatecas the 1-2 (2-3) lead.
That goal forced Leones Negros to go on the attack, but were unable to find a response; it was too little, too late, and they fell in front of their home crowd.
With the 1-2 (2-3 aggregate) win, Mineros advance to the final while Leones are eliminated.
