Jaguares de Chiapas announced the departure of Ricardo La Volpe via their Twitter account, with a brief message reading “Thank you for your experience, dedication, and professionalism shown during your stay in Chiapas. This will always be your home. Thank you Ricardo.”
La Volpe, 65, took charge of Chiapas in May 2015 after the end of Sergio Bueno’s contract with the club. Under the Argentinian, Jaguares finished the Apertura 2015 season in fourth but were eliminated by eventual-champion Tigres in the first round of the playoffs.
The Clausura 2016 season was not nearly as successful, as a struggling Jaguares earned just 12 points and finished the season in last place in the table. Some of that was undoubtedly due to the club’s off-field issues, such as players being paid weeks or even months late at several points during the season.
