The Águilas were successful on the international stage as they won the 2015-16 CONCACAF Champions League and qualified for the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup as a result.
América has brought in four players to date, two from within Liga MX and two from abroad. Moving within the league are strikers Silvio Romero and Ricardo Cruz, who are both arriving from financially-strapped Jaguares de Chiapas. The foreign reinforcements are Paraguayan defender Bruno Valdez (Cerro Porteño) and Ecuadorian midfielder Renato Ibarra (SBV Vitesse).
In terms of departures, Darío Benedetto is the only one to move on a permanent transfer, leaving América for Boca Juniors in his native Argentina. Four other players have gone out on loan: Andrés Andrade (León), Francisco Rivera (Veracruz), and Alejandro Díaz (Necaxa) have all moved within the league, while Brian Lozano is on loan with Nacional in his native Uruguay.
