It was a disappointing end to the season for the then-reigning champions, but their Apertura 2015 title did qualify them for the 2016-17 CONCACAF Champions League, which begins in August.
The universitarios have brought in a number of players ahead of the Apertura 2016 season, all of them from within Mexico. Joining Tigres on transfers are Luis Rodríguez (Jaguares de Chiapas) and Ismael Sosa (Pumas UNAM), while Miguel Herrera (Pachuca) arrives on loan.
In addition, Francisco Meza (Pumas), Luis Quiñones (Pumas), Alberto Acosta (Puebla), and Julián Quiñones (Venados) have all returned to Tigres at the end of their own loan deals.
In terms of departures, Egidio Arévalo (Jaguares) and Rafael Sóbis (Cruzeiro) have both left on transfers while Jesús Urbina (Morelia), Genaro Castillo (Tampico Madero), Antonio Briseño (FC Juárez), and Richard Sánchez (Tampico Madero) have all gone on loan.
