During Querétaro’s Copa MX loss to Puebla on Wednesday night, two fans were badly injured after a railing collapsed, causing them to fall about 7 meters (23 feet) to a lower level of the stands.
The young men who fell have been identified as David Castro, age 20, and Vicente Martínez, age 21. Their injuries include a broken femur and head trauma and both remain hospitalized.
Querétaro’s State Civil Protection department is investigating the accident and the cause of the railing collapse. Castro and Martínez were leaning against the railing to take a photo when it collapsed under their weight, dropping them 7 meters into the stands.
The incident occurred in the eastern zone of the stadium.
