copa corona mxChivas de Guadalajara 1-4 Jaguares de Chiapas – Group 2
Chivas de Guadalajara took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Jaguares de Chiapas fought back for a 1-4 away victory. The hosts had the first good chance of the game before the 10-minute mark, when Miguel Ángel Ponce nearly beat Liborio Sánchez with a powerful shot. However, it wasn’t until the 37th minute that El Rebaño found the breakthrough, with Edson Torres finishing off a great individual play to make it 1-0.

But Chivas was playing with 10 thanks to the sending off of Néstor Calderón in the 28th minute, and Jaguares tied the match just two minutes later, with José Ayoví making it 1-1 just before halftime. In the second half, Jaguares took the lead in the 72nd minute through Dieter Villalpando, before running up the score with goals from Martín Zúñiga in the 83rd and 85th minutes. With the 1-4 win, Jaguares reach four points while Chivas remain on zero.

Lobos BUAP 4-0 Tijuana – Group 6
In their debut in this competition, Lobos BUAP made short work of Tijuana with a 4-0 mauling of the Xolos. The hosts controlled the ball from the opening whistle and Jorge Ibarra nearly opened the scoring from long range early on, but his shot crashed against the crossbar. Lobos didn’t have to wait long for the first goal, however, with Daniel Porozo making it 1-0 in the 15th minute. Tijuana didn’t have a notable chance of their own until the 35th minute, when Avilés Hurtado sent his header wide.

In the second half, Lobos put the game away. They scored their second in the 51st minute through Ibarra, who found the upper right corner of the net. Then, six minutes later, Guillermo Clemens made it 3-0. It was substitute Diego Jiménez who put the cherry on top of the victory with his goal in the 65th minute. With the 4-0 win, Lobos reach three points while Tijuana remains on three.

América 4-1 Mineros de Zacatecas – Group 5
América kept their perfect start to the Apertura 2016 season alive with a 4-1 thrashing of Mineros de Zacatecas. The Águilas opened the scoring early, with Bruno Valdéz giving them the lead in just the 7th minute when he finished off a corner kick to make it 1-0. América added to their lead in the 16th minute through Renato Ibarra, who caused problems for Mineros’ defense all night. The visitors got a foothold in the game just before halftime, when Gustavo Ramírez combined well with Roberto Nurse to make it 2-1 in the 40th minute.

But América retook control of the match in the second half. The Águilas controlled the ball and had chance after chance to run up the score. Rubens Sambueza slotted a low shot home in the 60th minute to restore América’s two-goal lead, and then Silvio Romero made it 4-1 in the 70th minute to put the game completely out of reach. With the 4-1 win, América reaches six points while Mineros remain on zero.

Atlante 0-1 León – Group 1
León defeated Atlante by the minimum difference in this Group 1 match. It took nearly 40 minutes for León to find their first good chance of the game, but after that they started coming in bursts. First, Mauro Boselli saw his powerful shot stopped by Eduardo Bravo; then, the keeper came up big against Darío Burbano within the six-yard box. Finally, just before halftime, Boselli broke through to make it 0-1 for the visitors.

In the second half, La Fiera was the more dangerous side and they had several chances to run up the score. However, Bravo was impressive in goal and the keeper kept his side in the game with several important saves. Atlante was unable to capitalize on their keeper’s heroics, though, and the Potros were ultimately unable to come up with an equalizer. With the 0-1 win, León reaches four points while Atlante remains on zero.
