Pumas UNAM vs León – 1:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Pumas UNAM (5th) drew 0-0 with Cruz Azul last weekend to remain unbeaten this season. The universitarios are now returning home to the Estadio Olímpico Universitario and they will look to return to winning ways as well. Pumas have yet to concede a goal this season, but their attacking play has raised some concerns with just one goal in their two matches to date.
As for León (17th), La Fiera drew 0-0 with Necaxa last weekend to leave them still looking for their first win. Their lone road game of the season to date was an unmitigated disaster, a 5-1 loss to Pachuca, and they will look for a better result here. They, like Pumas, have only scored once this season; they haven’t been prolific in the Copa MX, either, where they earned a 0-1 win over Atlante in midweek. Pumas did not have any midweek commitments, so they will be more rested than León.
Jaguares de Chiapas vs Toluca – 6:00 PM – Galavision
Jaguares de Chiapas (18th) fell 0-2 to Pachuca last weekend to keep them winless, pointless, and goalless in the Apertura 2016 to date. They did, however, enjoy a big win in the Copa MX in midweek, where they defeated Chivas 1-4. Jaguares will look to build on that victory in league play as they look to move away from the foot of the table.
As for Toluca (14th), the Diablos Rojos fell 3-1 to América last weekend to leave them also looking for their first win. Toluca is enduring a bit of a road swing to start the season – this will be their third consecutive away game – due to renovations of the Estadio Nemesio Diez. Nevertheless, Toluca will not want to have to rely on home form to dig them out of an early-season hole. Jaguares have been vulnerable in league play this season and the Diablos Rojos will look to take advantage.
Santos Laguna vs Monarcas Morelia – 7:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Santos Laguna (16th) fell 2-0 to Veracruz last weekend to leave them still looking for their first win. The Laguneros will look to get their season on track when they return to the Estadio Corona, but to do that they will need to start scoring goals. Santos has been shutout in both of their league games to date. They did score in midweek, but still didn’t win as they drew 1-1 with FC Juárez in the Copa MX.
As for Monarcas Morelia (15th), the michoacanos were moments away from their first win last weekend when Querétaro scored a stoppage-time goal to tie the match 2-2. Morelia will now look to overcome that disappointing finish here as they look to strengthen their position in the relegation standings. They did earn a win in the Copa MX in midweek, a 3-0 victory against Alebrijes de Oaxaca, and they will look to carry that form over to league play in this one.
