A hat-trick by Rogelio Funes Mori powered Monterrey to a 0-3 away win against León and gave the Rayados their first victory of the Apertura 2016 season. La Fiera, meanwhile, remain winless and in last place in the table.
The visitors threatened from the opening whistle, with Carlos Sánchez forcing a good save out of William Yarbrough early on. Then, in the 6th minute, Funes Mori put the ball into the lower left corner to make it 0-1.
León immediately threw numbers forward in search of an equalizer, but they were soon derailed by injuries as first Alexander Mejía (13th minute) and then Efraín Velarde (34th) were forced out of the game.
In the second half, it was Monterrey that pressed with intent and in the 65th minute they found their second. Good combination play between Celso Ortiz, Yimmi Chara, and Funes Mori ended with the Argentinian scoring his second of the night to put the Rayados firmly in control.
León found a few chances of their own as they looked to reduce the deficit, but Alexander Domínguez saved everything that got to him.
Then, in the final moments of the match, Funes Mori finished off his hat-trick as he rounded the keeper and slid the ball into the empty net in the 91st minute.
With the 0-3 win, Monterrey reaches five points while León remains on one.
