Querétaro vs Cruz Azul – 6:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Querétaro (5th) drew 0-0 with Chivas de Guadalajara last weekend to remain unbeaten this season but also remain winless on the road. The Gallos Blancos are perfect at home, though, and they will look for another win in La Corregidora here. Querétaro could move into first place with a win, depending on other results, and they’re facing a struggling opponent in this one.
As for Cruz Azul (13th), La Máquina fell 1-2 to Tijuana last weekend to remain winless this season. Cruz Azul is actually unbeaten on the road, though, with a pair of draws, and they will look to start turning those draws into wins in this one. They have struggled offensively, however, with just two goals scored – and both of those at home. They were shutout in both of their away games to date. They will also be without the suspended Julián Velázquez for this one.
Monterrey vs Necaxa – 8:00 PM – Univision / Univision Deportes
Monterrey (8th) defeated León 0-3 last weekend to give them their first win of the season. The Rayados will now look for their first home win when they return to the Estadio BBVA Bancomer for this one. Monterrey is unbeaten but winless at home after a pair of draws, but now that their offense has come to life they will look to turn the BBVA Bancomer back into the fortress it was last season.
As for Necaxa (14th), the Rayos drew 2-2 with Pumas UNAM last weekend to remain winless this season. They did at least break their goalscoring drought, netting their first tallies of the season, but they were unable to hold on for their first win. With the threat of relegation always hanging over their heads, the Rayos need to start turning draws into wins sooner rather than later.
Atlas vs Puebla – 8:00 PM – Azteca America
Atlas (10th) fell 3-2 to Monarcas Morelia last weekend to end their unbeaten start to the season. The Rojinegros are still unbeaten at home, however, and they will look to continue that streak here. Atlas has had some trouble in front of goal, though, averaging just a goal a game, and they will look for some better production in this one.
As for Puebla (9th), the Poblanos drew 0-0 with Santos Laguna last weekend to remain winless in two. Puebla is also winless on the road this season, with a loss and a draw, and they’ll look for their first road win in this one. They did win in the Copa MX in midweek, where they remain perfect after a 2-1 victory against Dorados de Sinaloa.
Pachuca vs Pumas UNAM – 8:06 PM – NBC Deportes
Pachuca (2nd) fell 2-0 to Toluca last weekend to end their perfect start to the season. The Tuzos are still perfect at home, however, where they haven’t lost since the Apertura 2015 season, and they will look to get back to winning ways here. Pachuca has been very good at home with six goals scored and just one allowed, and with Mexico’s elimination from the Olympics they will be getting a significant part of their roster back – but not young star Rodolfo Pizarro, who suffered a leg fracture in Rio.
As for Pumas UNAM (6th), the universitarios drew 2-2 with Necaxa last weekend to remain unbeaten this season. They are winless on the road, though, after a pair of draws, and they’ve also had some goalscoring trouble, having scored more than one goal in a game just once this season. However, last weekend’s come-from-behind draw could have an inspiring effect in this one.
América vs Monarcas Morelia – 10:00 PM – Univision / Univision Deportes
América (3rd) came from behind to beat Veracruz 2-4 last weekend. The Águilas were reduced to 10 men in that game, and as a result Erik Pimentel will be suspended for this match. América lost their last home game and they’ll look to get back to winning ways in the Estadio Azteca – and possibly move into first place as a result – in this one. They have one of the best attacks in the league with nine goals scored, but they’ve also conceded five goals in their last two matches.
As for Monarcas Morelia (7th), the michoacanos beat Atlas 3-2 last weekend to give them back-to-back wins. Morelia will now look to keep that winning streak alive when they return to the road in this one. Morelia’s defense is something of a concern, however, as they have allowed multiple goals in all four of their league games to date. They conceded a goal in midweek as well as they drew 1-1 with Murciélagos in the Copa MX.
