Querétaro remained unbeaten and Cruz Azul remained winless as the two played out a 0-0 draw on Saturday night. La Máquina were unable to take advantage of a red card to Édgar Benítez as they settled for their fourth draw of the season.
Cruz Azul has struggled to score this season with just two goals in their five games to date, and although they got off nine shots in this match, not a single one was on goal. The Gallos Blancos managed 12 shots, seven on goal, but none went into the net.
In the first half, the best opportunities for the hosts came through Emanuel Villa, but Jesús Corona was there to deny him on a pair of occasions. Jonathan Cristaldo’s off-target free kick was Cruz Azul’s best chance of the half.
In the second half, Édgar Benítez earned a straight red card for a foul on Omar Mendoza in the 67th minute, just three minutes after “Pájaro” entered the match as a sub.
However, Cruz Azul was not able to make good use of their extra man and the game finished goalless.
With the 0-0 draw, Querétaro reaches nine points while Cruz Azul reaches four.
