The woodwork was the star of the first half as it twice prevented the breakthrough. First, Alan Zamora’s long distance shot was kept out by the crossbar; then, for Jaguares, Vanderley Dias was also denied by the frame.
But the visitors found the breakthrough shortly before halftime. In the 37th minute, Julio César Furch tried his luck from outside the box and he sent his shot unerringly into the lower corner to make it 0-1 for Veracruz.
Jaguares found the response soon after the break. In the 49th minute, Jonathan Fabbro pounced on a loose ball in the box and sent his low shot past Pedro Gallese to tie the game 1-1.
The hosts outshot the visitors 17-9 as they looked to complete the comeback, but despite all of their efforts they could get very few actually on target and they were unable to beat Gallese a second time.
With the 1-1 draw, Jaguares and Veracruz both reach four points.
