Pumas UNAM vs Monterrey – 1:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Pumas UNAM (9th) fell 3-0 to Pachuca last weekend to bring their unbeaten start to the season to an abrupt halt. The universitarios are still unbeaten – and in fact perfect – at home this season, though, and they will look to get back to winning ways in the Estadio Olímpico Universitario. They picked up a victory there in midweek in the CONCACAF Champions League, where they defeated Honduras Progreso 2-0 to remain perfect in that competition.
As for Monterrey (6th), the Rayados beat Necaxa 2-0 last weekend to earn their first home win of the season. They have now won back-to-back league games and they’ll look to make it three in a row when they return to the road for this one. They did suffer a surprise loss in their midweek CCL game, though, where they fell 2-3 – at home – to Panama’s Árabe Unido.
Puebla vs América – 7:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Puebla (11th) fell 3-2 to Atlas last weekend to keep them winless in three matches and winless on the road this season. The Poblanos are unbeaten at home, however, and they will look to get back to winning ways when they return to the Estadio Cuauhtémoc in this one. However, Puebla has been somewhat shaky defensively with eight goals conceded (tied for 3rd most in the league) and they will need a better performance against one of the league’s best attacks here.
As for América (3rd), the Águilas drew 1-1 with Monarcas Morelia last weekend to remain unbeaten in two. They are also unbeaten, and in fact perfect, on the road this season, although they’ve only played one away game to date. They are perfect in the Copa MX as well, where they earned a 2-0 victory over Venados in midweek to became the first team to qualify for the knockout rounds of that competition.
