Cruz Azul scored in stoppage time to snatch a 1-1 draw against Atlas in their visit to the Estadio Jalisco. The result ends the Rojinegros’ home winning streak but keeps them unbeaten in three overall, while La Máquina remains both unbeaten and winless on the road this season.
The hosts took the lead early on, with Cándido Ramírez running onto a through ball on the left, entering the box, and shooting past Jesús Corona in the 12th minute to make it 1-0.
Atlas then had the chance to add to their lead in the 23rd minute, when Martín Barragán drove into the box, but he held the ball too long and Cruz Azul was able to clear it.
The visitors came close to equalizing just past the half-hour mark, when Jorge Benítez got past the defense and the keeper only to hit the post.
In the second half, Cruz Azul enjoyed more possession but were unable to translate that into goals as Atlas’s defense stood firm.
Then, with the last seconds ticking off the clock, Jaine Barreiro was called for a foul on Joffre Guerrón in the box and referee Fernando Guerrero pointed to the penalty spot.
Francisco Silva stepped up to take the PK and he converted it, sending his low shot past Ustari to tie it up 1-1 in the 91st minute.
With the 1-1 draw, Atlas reaches 10 points while Cruz Azul reaches eight.
