Tigres UANL vs Veracruz – Jornada 7 Recap and Highlights

tigres veracruzTigres UANL took the lead but couldn’t hold it as Veracruz came back for a 1-1 draw. The result keeps the universitarios unbeaten at home this season while the Tiburones Rojos are still winless on the road as well as winless in five overall.

The hosts controlled the ball and the rhythm of the game early on. Tigres brought the ball into the final third again and again through Javier Aquino and Ismael Sosa, and André-Pierre Gignac forced a good fingertip save out of Pedro Gallese, but they couldn’t find the breakthrough.

As for Veracruz, they concentrated almost entirely on defending and only ventured forward when a counterattacking opportunity presented itself.

The game changed in the second half as Tigres finally found the breakthrough just four minutes after the break. Ismael Sosa took control of the ball in midfield, drove downfield, and sent his shot past Gallese to make it 1-0 in the 49th minute.

With the need for points weighing on Veracruz, the Tiburones abandoned their defensive posture and began to press forward in search of an equalizer. However, that left space at the back for Tigres and they nearly found a second through Jürgen Damm in the 57th minute.

But the deficit remained just one goal and in the 69th minute substitute Agustín Vuletich found the equalizer just 10 minutes after entering the match. Nahuel Guzmán gave up a rebound and Vuletich was there to send his left-footed shot into the net.

Tigres came closest to finding a second goal but in the end the 1-1 scoreline held, leaving the two teams to split the spoils.

With the 1-1 draw, Tigres reach 13 points while Veracruz reaches six.
