Both these teams picked up come-from-behind wins on Friday, with Mexico beating El Salvador 1-3 away and Honduras defeating Canada 2-1 at home. When these two sides faced off in San Pedro Sula last November, El Tri earned a 0-2 win.
Honduras needs just a point here to mathematically guarantee their advancement; they would also advance with a loss should Canada fail to beat El Salvador. Should the Catrachos lose and the Canadians win, it would come down to goal difference; Honduras currently owns the tiebreaker, with a difference of 0 to Canada’s -5.
Although the result of this match doesn’t matter to Mexico’s own advancement, a poor summer and a poor first half against El Salvador mean they will want a big win here to boost morale and confidence going into the Hex.
All times Eastern.
