The visitors opened the scoring early on, with Fernando Uribe heading home a cross from Pablo Barrientos in the 11th minute. Uribe’s header found the left corner and gave Toluca the 0-1 lead.
Puebla immediately began to push for an equalizer, and they came close in the 17th minute when Jerónimo Amione’s low shot forced a save out of Alfredo Talavera, with the defense clearing away the rebound.
The hosts’ best chance of the half came in the 32nd minute, when a long pass left Matías Alustiza in on goal, but “el Chavo” sent his effort just wide.
In the second half, Toluca added to their advantage with a goal by Erbin Trejo in the 52nd minute. Alexis Vega played in Trejo, who took the ball into the box and beat Cristian Campestrini at his near post to make it 0-2.
Puebla continued to press as they looked for a response, but despite having 18 shots – 10 on target – throughout the match, the Poblanos were ultimately unable to even reduce the deficit.
With the 0-2 win, Toluca reaches 10 points while Puebla remains on nine.
