Copa MX Round of Sixteen: Monarcas Morelia vs Chivas de Guadalajara

copa corona mxA dubious penalty kick was all that separated the sides as Chivas de Guadalajara defeated Monarcas Morelia 0-1.

The visitors looked the better side initially, with Javier López, Néstor Calderón, and Alejandro Zendejas the main sources of danger, but by the 15th minute Morelia was starting to gain a foothold.

Then, in the 29th minute, Sebastián Vegas was called for a debatable foul in the box and Calderón converted the ensuing penalty kick to give Chivas the 0-1 lead.

Morelia was never able to develop much of a rhythm, with the pouring rain in the Estadio Morelos affecting both teams. Despite attack-minded substitutions by both coaches, the game stalled in midfield for much of the second half.

With the 0-1 win, Chivas advances to the quarterfinals while Morelia is eliminated.
