Querétaro vs Santos Laguna – 6:00 PM – Galavision
Querétaro (14th) fell 2-0 to Pachuca last weekend to give them back-to-back losses. The Gallos Blancos have just one win in their last eight games and have been dropping down the table at an alarming rate. They did win their last home game, though, and they’ll look to build on that success with another victory in this one. They earned a home win in midweek in the Copa MX, where they beat Lobos BUAP 3-1 to advance to the quarterfinals.
As for Santos Laguna (17th), the Laguneros fell 1-2 to Tijuana last weekend to give them back-to-back losses as well. Santos is also in the midst of a three-game road losing streak and they have yet to win on the road this season. Another loss here could easily see Santos finish the weekend in last place in the table, something they will be eager to avoid here. They have the second-worst defense in the league, and they will need to be stronger in the back if they want to get their first road victory.
Cruz Azul vs Veracruz – 6:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Cruz Azul (13th) drew 0-0 with Tigres UANL last weekend to remain unbeaten on the road this season but winless in two overall. La Maquina has also lost their last two home games and they’ll be eager to halt that slide here against another of the league’s struggling teams. Cruz Azul actually has one of the best defensive records in the league, but a lack of goalscoring at the other end has caused some problems for them. They had no trouble finding goals in midweek, though, where they beat Mineros de Zacatecas 4-0 in the Copa MX round of sixteen.
As for Veracruz (16th), the Tiburones Rojos fell 0-1 to Chivas de Guadalajara last weekend to extend their losing streak to three games. Veracruz is also winless on the road this season with two draws and three losses, and they’ve averaging less than a goal a game on their travels. They failed to score on the road in midweek as well as they fell 1-0 to América in the Copa MX.
Monterrey vs América – 8:00 PM – Univision
Monterrey (11th) fell 3-1 to Atlas last weekend to keep them winless on the road in four. The Rayados are unbeaten at home this season, however, with two wins and three draws, and they’ll look to get back to winning ways in this one. They did pick up a win in midweek, where they beat Don Bosco 3-0 in the CONCACAF Champions League, but this game will be a tougher test than that.
As for América (4th), the Aguilas beat Pumas UNAM 2-1 in last weekend’s Clásico Capitalino to remain unbeaten in two. They are also unbeaten on the road this season, with two wins and two draws, and they’ll look to keep that streak alive here. América has one of the best attacking records in the league, but they’ve been struggling defensively this season, having allowed 19 goals to date. They did post a shutout in midweek, though, with a 1-0 win against Veracruz in the Copa MX.
León vs Tigres UANL – 8:06 PM – Galavision
León (15th) drew 1-1 with Toluca last weekend to remain unbeaten in four but winless in two. They faced Toluca in midweek as well, and their Copa MX match did not go so well; a 4-3 loss knocked them out of that competition. However, La Fiera are unbeaten in three at home in league play and they’ll look to get back to winning ways when they return to the Nou Camp for this one.
As for Tigres UANL (2nd), the universitarios drew 0-0 with Cruz Azul last weekend to end their three-game winning streak but keep them unbeaten this season. They have the best defense in the league by far, having allowed just four goals in their 11 games, and it will be hard for León to break them down here. However, they did suffer a 1-0 loss to Plaza Amador in the CONCACAF Champions League in midweek to end their unbeaten streak in all competitions.
Chivas de Guadalajara vs Monarcas Morelia – 10:00 PM – Univision
Chivas de Guadalajara (7th) beat Veracruz 0-1 last weekend to end a two-game losing streak. Chivas has just one win in their last four home games, however, with two draws and a loss rounding out their results in the Estadio Chivas. They have the second-worst home scoring record in the league, with an average of just one goal per game, and they’ll need to step up their offensive production if they want to get back to winning ways here.
As for Monarcas Morelia (9th), the michoacanos fell 2-3 to Puebla last weekend to give them back-to-back losses. Morelia is unbeaten in four on the road, however, with two wins and two draws, and they need to get back to winning ways in order to move out of last place in the relegation standings. They have the second-best attacking record in the league, but they also have the worst defensive record.
These two faced off in the Copa MX Round of Sixteen in midweek, where Chivas earned a 0-1 win to advance to the quarterfinals.
Necaxa vs Toluca – 10:00 PM – TV Delay: 12:30 AM – Univision Deportes
Necaxa (12th) drew 2-2 with Jaguares de Chiapas last weekend to keep them unbeaten in six but winless in three after a series of draws. The Rayos are unbeaten at home this season, but they only have one win there; their other four home games have all ended in draws. Given Necaxa’s delicate positioning in the relegation fight, they need to start turning draws into wins sooner rather than later.
As for Toluca (5th), the Diablos Rojos drew 1-1 with León last weekend to end their three-game winning streak. However, they are still unbeaten in eight and they will look to keep that streak alive against one of the league’s weaker teams. They also have a two-game road winning streak going and they won in midweek as well, beating León 4-3 in the Copa MX to advance to the quarterfinals.
