copa corona mxAmérica defeated Veracruz by the minimum difference in the Copa MX round of sixteen on Wednesday night.

Veracruz looked for an equalizer as the balance of play remained largely even. In the 76th minute, Julio César Furch thought he had leveled the match with his powerful header, but the would-be goal was disallowed for offside.

In the end, the lone goal stood up as América held on for the victory. However, it wasn’t all good news for the Águilas as Paul Aguilar left the game with a knee injury.

With the 1-0 win, América advances to the quarterfinals while Veracruz is eliminated.
