Chivas de Guadalajara beat Monarcas Morelia 2-1 on Saturday night to give them back-to-back wins. As for Morelia, the michoacanos have now lost three straight; the result also ends their four-game road unbeaten streak.
The hosts started off much better and Isaác Brizuela nearly opened the scoring in the first moments, but his shot was cleared away by the defense with the goalkeeper beaten.
In the 35th minute, Sebastián Vegas was called for a foul on Orbelín Pineda in the box, giving Chivas the chance to take the lead from the penalty spot. Alan Pulido stepped up to take the PK and he converted it to make it 1-0.
In the second half, Chivas made it 2-0 with a fantastic goal from Brizuela. In the 55th minute, Brizuela sent a powerful shot from outside the box arcing into the net, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance as he added to Guadalajara’s lead.
Morelia struggled to get anything going offensively, while Chivas continued to create chances. Carlos Peña came as close as hitting the post.
In stoppage time, Rodolfo Vilchis reduced the deficit to 2-1 with a powerful shot from distance, but it was too little, too late for the visitors.
With the 2-1 win, Chivas reach 20 points while Morelia remains on 15.
