Chivas Fans Directed Racist Insults at Jefferson Cuero

morelia logoMonarcas Morelia’s Jefferson Cuero was the victim of racist insults during Morelia’s visit to Chivas de Guadalajara in Jornada 12 play.

In the second half of the match, which Chivas won 2-1, the home fans made monkey noises at Cuero every time the Colombian touched the ball.

Cuero’s teammate, Juan Pablo Rodríguez, spoke out to denounce the behavior, saying, “Not only shouldn’t it happen in Mexican soccer, [it shouldn’t happen] in any soccer, we all have rights and everyone should be respected.”

Morelia’s coach, Enrique Meza, also spoke out against the actions of the Chivas fans, echoing Rodríguez’s statement that “this should not happen.”

The Disciplinary Committee has opened an investigation into the incident.
