Pachuca defeated 10-man Santos Laguna 3-0 to remain unbeaten at home this season. The Tuzos are now unbeaten overall in five, while Santos Laguna is winless in four overall and still winless on the road this season.
Pachuca came out looking to get back to winning ways and they took control of the ball early on. They threatened the visitors’ goal with good attacking play down the wings before taking the lead in the 17th minute through Franco Jara.
Santos nearly equalized after an error by Omar González, whose header back to the keeper was severely underweighted and was picked off. However, Walter Sandoval was unable to put his header on target.
In the second half, Jara made it 2-0 for Pachuca with an impressive volleyed finish following a pass from Raúl López in the 57th minute.
Just two minutes after that, Hirving Lozano was taken down in the box by Juan Caicedo, who was given a red card for denial of a clear goal-scoring opportunity. Lozano himself took the ensuing penalty kick and he converted it to give the Tuzos the 3-0 lead.
With a comfortable lead and a man advantage the hosts easily saw out the rest of the game and they moved into second place with the victory.
With the 3-0 win, Pachuca reaches 24 points while Santos remains on nine.
