The Águilas took the lead early on. Michael Arroyo drove into the box and sent his left-footed shot into the net in just the 6th minute to make it 1-0 for the hosts.
In the 24th minute, América made it 2-0. Pablo Aguilar found Rubens Sambueza, who in turn found the back of the net. They looked firmly in control of the game, with Jaguares only mustering one dangerous opportunity in the first half.
But in the second half, the visitors reduced the deficit. A handball by Osmar Mares gave Chiapas a penalty kick in the 54th minute, and Vanderley de Jesús converted it to make it 2-1.
William da Silva very nearly restored América’s two-goal lead in the 61st minute, only for his shot to crash against the crossbar. But ten minutes later that they did find a third, as Paolo Goltz headed home a cross from Sambueza to make it 3-1.
Jaguares once again were able to pull a goal back, with Adrián Marín making it 3-2 just minutes later to set up a frenetic finale. However, América was able to manage the game and Jaguares were unable to find an equalizer.
With the 3-2 win, América advances to the semifinals while Jaguares are eliminated.
