Apertura 2016 Week 15 Preview: Friday’s Game

liga mxVeracruz vs Pumas UNAM – 10:00 PM – Azteca America
Veracruz (17th) fell 3-2 to Necaxa last weekend to extend their losing streak to six games. The Tiburones Rojos are also in the midst of a three-game home losing streak and they have been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. More worryingly, another loss here could see them drop into last place in the relegation standings by the end of the weekend. They also have the second-worst defensive record in the league with 29 goals conceded to date – more than two per game on average – which hasn’t been making things easy for them.

As for Pumas UNAM (9th), the universitarios fell 1-3 to Tigres UANL last weekend to snap their season-long home winning streak. They will now return to the road, where they have yet to win this season. However, this game looks like a good opportunity for Pumas to snap their five-game road losing streak as they take on one of the league’s basement dwellers. They will have plenty of motivation since they will need a good result to move back into the playoff places.
