Both Santos and Jaguares were trying to move away from the foot of the table. The hosts had the better of the chances in the first half, with first Ulises Dávila and then Javier Rodríguez coming close to opening the scoring.
The game went to halftime goalless, but just a minutes after the restart the Guerreros found the breakthrough. In the 46th minute, Djaniny sent in a cross for Walter Sandoval, who sent his volley into the back of the net to make it 1-0.
Five minutes later, Santos had their second. Ulises Dávila stole the ball as Jaguares tried to play out of the back, drove towards goal, and scored to make it 2-0.
Jaguares began to find some chances of their own in the final half hour, as Santos took their foot off the gas. In the 61st minute, Julio Nava had a good opportunity but he sent his header wide. Then, Jonathan Fabbro hit the post.
Jaguares have struggled to score this season, though, and tonight was no exception. They were never able to reduce the deficit, let alone find an equalizer.
With the 2-0 win, Santos reaches 13 points while Jaguares remain on six.
