Toluca has announced the arrival of Rubens Sambueza ahead of the Clausura 2017 season.
Welcome @rubenssambueza. Defend this crest with passion and complete dedication!
Sambueza, 32, joins Toluca from América, where he captained the club. The Argentinian midfielder has been in Mexico since signing for the Águilas in 2012, and also spent a year on loan with Pumas UNAM earlier in his career.
Sambueza won the Clausura 2013 and Apertura 2014 seasons with América, but he was unable to help them to another title this past season as they fell in the final to Tigres. He also won two CONCACAF Champions League titles with América, in 2014-15 and 2015-16.
Sambueza will miss the first game of the Clausura 2017 season with his new club, however, as he has a pending suspension to serve after picking up two yellow cards in the Apertura final.
