Mineros de Zacatecas 1-1 Puebla – Group 4
Mineros de Zacatecas snatched a draw with Puebla after their late equalizer made it 1-1. The visitors had taken the lead just before halftime, after Eduardo Pérez sent in a good cross for Jerónimo Amione, who made it 0-1 in the 41st minute.
In the second half, Mineros pressed forward in search of an equalizer, and they found one just in the nick of time. Santiago Echeverría earned Zacatecas a point with his powerful header in the 88th minute.
With the 1-1 draw, Mineros and Puebla both reach one point.
Celaya 0-2 Toluca – Group 8
A pair of second-half goals gave Toluca a 0-2 away win against Celaya in the opening game of Group 8. The hosts had the first chance of the game in the 4th minue, but after that the majority of the chances were for the visitors, primarily through Rubens Sambueza and Sinha, who came as close as hitting the post.
In the second half, Aarón Galindo gave the Diablos Rojos the lead with his headed goal in the 60th minute. Then, in the 73rd, Sinha played in Maikon Leite, who made it 0-2 to seal the victory.
With the 0-2 win, Toluca reaches three points while Celaya remains on zero.
Potros UAEM 1-0 Jaguares de Chiapas – Group 5
Potros UAEM earned a victory by the minimum difference over Jaguares de Chiapas in this Group 5 opener. The hosts took control of the game early and were soon creating dangerous chances. They took the lead in the 23rd minute when Marcos Gómes got free on the left and cut the ball back for Édgar González, who scored.
In the second half, Jaguares came out looking to equalize and they nearly did so in the 49th minute. However, Franco Arizala couldn’t finish off a good pass by Félix Micolta. Although the visitors controlled possession for most of the half, they were unable to translate it into goals.
With the 1-0 win, Potros reach three points while Jaguares remain on zero.
Cimarrones 1-0 Tijuana – Group 1
Cimarrones de Sonora started their Copa MX campaign with a 1-0 victory over Tijuana. The hosts came out looking for an upset over the Liga MX team in this hard-fought game, and they got their reward early in the second half.
In the 50th minute, Cimarrones took advantage of a set piece to take the lead. From a corner kick, Luis Loroña headed the hall home to make it 1-0 for the hosts. The Xolos pressed forward in search of an equalizer but Cimarrones stood firm defensively to post the shutout.
With the 1-0 win, Cimarrones reach three points while Tijuana remains on zero.
