Cruz Azul vs Monterrey – 6:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Cruz Azul (10th) fell 1-0 to Pumas UNAM last weekend to give them their first loss of the season. Gabriel Peñalba was sent off in that game and Cruz Azul’s red-card appeal was overturned, so the midfielder will miss this match with suspension as La Máquina will look to get back to winning ways when they return to the Estadio Azul. They fell in midweek as well, losing 3-2 to Querétaro in the Copa MX.
As for Monterrey (4th), the Rayados drew 2-2 with Chivas de Guadalajara last weekend to remain unbeaten this season. They will be a little disappointed not to have pulled off a comeback win considering that Chivas had been reduced to just nine men, and they’ll now look for a second consecutive road victory in this one. Monterrey will also be more rested than their opponent as they did not have a midweek game.
Tigres UANL vs América – 8:00 PM – Univision / Univision Deportes
Tigres UANL (14th) fell 2-0 to Atlas last weekend to remain winless this season. Tigres are unbeaten at home, though, where they drew their opening match, and they will now look for their first victory in this rematch of the Apertura 2016 final. In order to do so, the universitarios will need to improve their offense – they have been shut out in both of their league games to date.
As for América (15th), the Águilas fell 2-1 to Toluca last weekend to remain winless as well, although they have only played one league game so far. They did win in the Copa MX in midweek, where they defeated Santos 3-2. América will now be looking not only for their first league win of the season but also for revenge after losing the final to Tigres just a month ago.
Monarcas Morelia vs Santos Laguna – 8:00 PM – Azteca America
Monarcas Morelia (3rd) drew 0-0 with Querétaro last weekend to remain unbeaten in league play this season. However, Morelia is still at the foot of the relegation standings and they will be looking to get back to winning ways in this one. A victory could be enough to lift them out of last place in the Tabla de Cociente, depending on other results. The michoacanos also have the best defensive record to date, having posted two consecutive clean sheets. They did concede in midweek, though, as they fell 3-0 to León in the Copa MX.
As for Santos Laguna (6th), the Laguneros beat Veracruz 2-1 last weekend to also remain unbeaten in league play. Santos did lose in midweek, though, as they fell 3-2 to América in the Copa MX. Santos will now look for their first road win in all competitions as they aim to add to Morelia’s relegation headache.
León vs Pumas UNAM – 8:06 PM – Galavision
León (11th) beat Necaxa 0-1 last weekend to earn their first victory of the season. La Fiera will look to follow that up with their first home win when they return to the Estadio Nou Camp in this one. They did win there in midweek, where they comfortably beat Morelia 3-0 in the Copa MX.
As for Pumas UNAM (8th), the universitarios beat Cruz Azul 1-0 last weekend to earn their first victory of the season as well. Pumas will now look for their first away win against a León side that has had a somewhat porous defense so far this season. They will also have the advantage of being better rested since Pumas did not have a midweek game.
Necaxa vs Pachuca – 10:00 PM – ESPN Deportes
Necaxa (17th) fell 0-1 to León last weekend to remain winless in the Clausura 2017. The Rayos had an excellent Apertura season, but a few more losses would drop them right back into the thick of the relegation fight. Necaxa needs to right the ship sooner rather than later and the first step is finding some way to score: they’ve been shut out in both of their league games to date.
As for Pachuca (2nd), the Tuzos beat Jaguares de Chiapas 1-0 last weekend to remain perfect in the Clausura. Pachuca is one of just two teams to win both of their opening matches and they’re also among the highest-scoring teams in the league. The Tuzos will look to keep their winning streak alive against a struggling Necaxa here. However, Pachuca’s away form has been rather questionable for a few seasons now.
Chivas de Guadalajara vs Tijuana – 10:06 PM – Univision / Univision Deportes
Chivas de Guadalajara (5th) drew 2-2 with Monterrey last weekend, a good result considering they finished the game with just nine men on the field. As a result, they’ll be without Jair Pereira and José Juan Vázquez for this one as they serve their suspensions. Chivas is unbeaten so far in the Clausura and they’ll look to keep that streak alive and get back to winning ways in their return to the Estadio Chivas in this one.
As for Tijuana (7th), the Xolos earned their first victory of the season in style last weekend with a 6-2 demolishing of Puebla. Tijuana will now look to build on that by earning their first away win in this one. They did lose on the road in midweek, though, when they fell 1-0 to Cimarrones in the Copa MX.
