A stoppage-time goal gave Chivas de Guadalajara a 1-1 draw against 10-man Santos Laguna. The result keeps Chivas unbeaten in two – but also winless at home in two – and keeps Santos unbeaten this season.
Chivas looked the better side in the first half, but they were unable to affect the scoreboard. “Chofis” López hit the crossbar from a corner kick, Orbelín Pineda had a good chance after a run from midfield, and Ángel Zaldívar forced a good save out of Jonathan Orozco, who also saved the follow-up attempt by López before Rodolfo Pizarro hit the woodwork.
Santos Laguna didn’t have many chances of note until the second half. In the 51st minute, a pre-fabricated set piece attempt went wrong for Alan Pulido, and Santos sprang a counterattack that nearly ended in a goal.
Then, in the 58th minute, the visitors took the lead. Walter Sandoval sent in a corner kick and Julio César Furch beat the defenders and Rodolfo Cota to the ball to make it 0-1.
The night quickly took a turn for the worse for Santos, however, as Diego de Buen entered the game in the 70th minute and exited it in the 78th following a straight red card for a foul on Orbelín Pineda. Santos coach José Manuel de la Torre was then ejected from the sideline a minute later.
With the numerical advantage, Chivas pressed forward in search of an equalizer, and it finally came in the 92nd minute. Pulido’s header hit the post and the rebound fell nicely for Pizarro, who sent it home to make it 1-1.
With the 1-1 draw, Chivas reaches eight points while Santos reaches nine.
