León ended a two-game losing streak but remained in winless in five with tonight’s 2-2 draw against Santos Laguna. The result keeps Santos unbeaten this season, although the Laguneros are now winless in three after a run of draws.
In the 25th minute, Santos earned a penalty kick after Christian Valdez was called for a foul on Walter Sandoval. Julio César Furch stepped up to take the PK and he converted it to give the visitors the 0-1 lead.
However, León responded immediately, with Germán Cano tying the game 1-1 with his shot just a minute later.
That goal revitalized León, and the home team began to look like the better side. But just when it was looking like La Fiera’s moment, Santos struck again. In the 44th minute, Carlos Izquierdoz’s header found the back of the net to make it 1-2 going into halftime.
In the second half, León pushed forward in search of another equalizer, while Santos had to content themselves principally with counterattacks. Djaniny wasted a few opportunities that were created that way, while Elías Hernández very nearly leveled the game for León with his shot from distance that crashed against the crossbar.
Finally, in the 81st minute, León found the goal they had been pushing for. Substitute Mauro Boselli finished off a corner kick to tie the game 2-2 and rescue a point for La Fiera.
With the 2-2 draw, León reaches five points while Santos reaches 11.
