Santos Laguna vs Necaxa – Jornada 8 Recap and Highlights

santos-necaxaSantos Laguna remained unbeaten in the Clausura 2017 season after a 2-2 draw with Necaxa. The Laguneros twice took the lead and twice failed to hold it; they have now drawn four straight games while the result leaves the Rayos winless in two.

The hosts started the game better and dominated the early going. In the 25th minute, they made the pressure pay off with the opening goal. Djaniny played in Osvaldo Martínez, who chipped Marcelo Barovero to make it 1-0.

Although Santos continued to look the better side after taking the lead, Necaxa was able to find a tying goal shortly before halftime. In the 41st minute, Luis Gallegos played a through ball that deflected off the defense; Edson Puch ran on to it to beat Jonathan Orozco and make it 1-1.

Santos reclaimed the lead in the 76th minute with a golazo. Ulises Rivas laid the ball off for Djaniny, who cut towards the center and sent his shot into the upper corner from outside the box to make it 2-1.

But once again the Rayos had a response. In the 86th minute, Puch sent the ball into the box and Mario de Luna headed it on for Maximiliano Barreiro, whose volley found the right corner to make it 2-2.

Neither team was able to find a winning goal in the few minutes remaining as Santos and Necaxa settled for a share of the spoils.

With the 2-2 draw, Santos reaches 12 points while Necaxa reaches eight.
