León vs América – Jornada 9 Recap and Highlights

leon americaLeón took the lead but couldn’t hold it as they drew 1-1 with América. The result leaves León winless in seven while the Águilas are now unbeaten in two.

León hit the crossbar in the 8th minute, but it was an injury rather than a goal-scoring opportunity that drew attention in the first half. In the 18th minute, Renato Ibarra was on the receiving end of a hard tackle by Andrés Andrade that led to the Ecuadorian leaving the stadium in an ambulance. América later confirmed on social media that Ibarra had suffered a fractured fibula.

A few minutes after that, León also lost a player, but due to a red card, not injury. Jorge Pereyra was sent off in the 20th minute for a foul on Miguel Ángel Samudio. But despite going down to 10 men, León was able to take the lead. Just before halftime, Mauro Boselli headed home a cross from Guillermo Burdisso to make it 1-0 for the hosts.

It didn’t take América long to react, though, and in the 46th minute they tied the game. Bruno Valdez got the final touch to a corner kick and headed it past William Yarbrough to make it 1-1.

América came close to completing the comeback on a few occasions, and debutant Diego Laínez was active up top. However, Silvio Romero missed one of the clearest opportunities and in the end the Águilas had to settle for the draw.

With the 1-1 draw, León reaches six points while América reaches 11.
