After leaving Chivas de Guadalajara’s Jornada 9 game against Toluca following a hard tackle, Isaác Brizuela is now set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
“El Conejo” was diagnosed with a third-degree right ankle sprain caused by the tackle by Rubens Sambueza, who was red-carded for the play.
That initial diagnosis, which would have seen Brizuela sidelined for 4-6 weeks, turned out to be optimistic. Team doctor Alberto Robles reported that, in addition to the sprain, Brizuela suffered a maisonneuve fracture that will require surgery.
The combination of injuries will see the midfielder miss at least 12 weeks, which effectively means he will miss the remainder of the Clausura 2017 season.
Chivas de Guadalajara has requested a sanction for Rubens Sambueza that would sideline the Toluca player until Brizuela’s return to the field.
