In the first half, play was concentrated in midfield, with neither team able to dominate or create many chances. The best opportunity fell to Edson Puch, but his volley was off target.
The second half started much differently. Halftime substitute Matías Alustiza surprised the hosts by putting Atlas ahead just 30 seconds after play resumed. In the 46th minute, “el Chavo” pounced on a loose ball to make it 0-1.
The visitors had a chance to add to their lead in the 62nd minute, but Martín Barragán was denied by the woodwork.
Just moments after that, Necaxa found the tying goal. Nicolás Maturana sent in a cross and the unfortunate Leiton Jiménez sent it into his own net when he tried to clear it.
Both teams pressed for a winning goal, but ultimately neither was able to find one.
With the 1-1 draw, Necaxa reaches nine points while Atlas reaches 14.
