The game started with chances at both ends. Puebla had a good opportunity in the 15th minute, when Alexis Canelo beat his marker, but he couldn’t put his shot on target.
Tigres made their chances count, and in the 34th minute the universitarios took the lead. Cristian Campestrini got a hand to a low cross from Luis Quiñones, but the loose ball fell for Jesús Dueñas, who made it 0-1.
In the second half, Eduardo Vargas made it 0-2 with his headed goal to put Tigres in firm control of the game.
Puebla was unable to reduce the deficit, let alone fight back for a positive result, although they had more shots and more set pieces than the visitors.
With the 0-2 win, Tigres reach 11 points while Puebla still has nine.
