Copa MX Round of 16: Cruz Azul vs León

Cruz Azul beat 10-man León by the minimum difference in their Copa MX round of sixteen game.

Ángel Mena gave La Máquina the lead in the 13th minute after displaying some individual skill. Mena nutmegged Javier Cornejo, drove into the box, and sent his left-footed shot past the keeper to make it 1-0.

The game was largely even after the goal, but in the closing minutes of the half León’s hopes of a comeback were diminished following the ejection of Nacho González.

Nevertheless, even playing a man down León created a number of chances to tie the game in the second half. Fernando Navarro and Mauro Boselli in particular had clear opportunities, but neither was able to take advantage.

On the other hand, Cruz Azul had a chance or two to add to their lead and put the game away, but they were likewise unable to capitalize on them. But in the end, the lone goal was enough for the hosts.

With the 1-0 win, Cruz Azul advances to the quarterfinals while León is eliminated.
