Puebla confirmed the death of Aníbal Ruíz Leites, who collapsed on the field of the Estadio Luis Pirata Fuente this evening.
Ruíz, 75, suffered a heart attack.
The game between Puebla and hosts Veracruz had just been postponed due to the referees’ strike when Ruíz collapsed. He was taken to the hospital via ambulance, where his death was later announced.
The Mexican soccer community has joined Puebla in mourning the loss of “Maño”, who had previously coached Puebla, León, and Veracruz, as well as serving as assistant coach for Toluca and Jaguares de Chiapas.
