Copa MX Quarterfinals: Monterrey vs Puebla

Monterrey earned a come-from-behind 3-2 victory against Puebla in their Copa MX quarterfinal game.

The visitors took the lead just four minutes into the match, when Jerónimo Amione sent a cross in for Federico González, who made it 0-1 with his half-volley.

However, Monterrey tied it up just a minute later. In the 5th minute, Yimmi Chara found Rogelio Funes Mori, who drove into the box and roofed his shot at the near post to make it 1-1.

The Rayados quickly completed the comeback from the penalty spot after Óscar Rojas was called for a handball in the box. Edwin Cardona converted the PK to make it 2-1.

Then, in the second half, Monterrey extended their lead. Poor marking by Puebla allowed Chara to receive a through ball and shoot past the onrushing Villaseñor to make it 3-1.

The game looked done and dusted at that point, but Puebla was able to reduce the deficit with a header by Héctor Schmidt in the 67th minute. With the 3-2 scoreline, Puebla looked for a tying goal but was ultimately unable to find one.

With the 3-2 win, Monterrey advances to the semifinals while Puebla is eliminated.
