The pressure is still on Jaguares de Chiapas in the relegation fight after their 0-3 loss to Pumas UNAM. The result keeps Jaguares winless in three, while the universitarios were able to bounce back after previously suffering their first home loss of the season.
The first half was a largely even affair and the game was just moments away from going to halftime 0-0. Then, in first-half stoppage time, Jesús Gallardo gave Pumas the 0-1 lead with his shot from outside the box.
Sergio Bueno didn’t hesitate to go to his bench after falling behind, and at first the substitutions seemed to be paying dividends. Jaguares were well-organized and created some dangerous chances going forward; nevertheless, it would be Pumas who struck again.
In the 66th minute, Matías Britos made it 0-2 after beating Moisés Muñoz on a one-on-one opportunity.
Jaguares continued to press after that second goal as they ratcheted up the intensity in search of a way back into the game. But in the waning stages, Pumas put the game definitively out of reach with their third goal.
Jesús Gallardo got on the scoresheet again after a great pass from Alan Mendoza, making it 0-3 in the 87th minute. Jaguares could now finish the weekend in penultimate in the relegation standings, depending on other results.
With the 0-3 win, Pumas reach 17 points while Jaguares still have 13.
