Santos Laguna remained unbeaten at home this season with a 1-0 win over Querétaro. The result snaps a six-game winless streak for the Guerreros and keeps the Gallos Blancos winless on the road in two.
The hosts dominated the game and their first chance came in just the third minute. Julio Furch connected with Osvaldo Martínez, who sent his shot over the bar. Then, in the 15th minute, Tiago Volpi made an impressive save on Walter Sandoval to keep the game goalless.
The visitors had only one chance of note in the first half, towards the end of it, and Jorge Villafaña was there to keep Édgar Benítez from getting his shot off from the edge of the box.
In the second half, Santos continued to dominate. In the 52nd minute, Sandoval played in Djaniny, but he sent his shot just wide.
Then, in the 59th minute, the hosts were finally able to open the scoring. Osvaldo Martínez sent a long pass to Djaniny, who got around the keeper and sent the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-0.
Querétaro had a chance to equalize in the 65th when Emanuel Villa found himself alone in front of Jonathan Orozco, but he sent his shot into the stands as the chance went begging.
After a string of draws, Santos was able to hold on to their lead in this one.
With the 1-0 win, Santos reaches 16 points while Querétaro still has 15.
