The visitors had the first good chance of the game in the 10th minute, when Marcos González forced a good save out of Agustín Marchesín to keep the game goalless. After that, the game slowed down and there were few chances of note at either end for the rest of the first half.
In the second half, América began to press, but Necaxa stood firm defensively and the Águilas had few real opportunities.
Then, in the 83rd minute, Michael Arroyo got into the box and took a shot; Marcelo Barovero made the initial save, but the rebound fell to Oribe Peralta, who made no mistake with his finish. América had the 1-0 lead.
Necaxa had a chance to tie the game in stoppage time, but Fabián Espíndola’s header went over the bar.
With the 1-0 win, América reaches 21 points while Necaxa still has 11.
