América vs Pachuca – Jornada 17 Recap and Highlights

Pachuca earned a 2-3 away win against América in their final regular season game, a result that sees both teams finish outside of the playoff places.

The Águilas needed just a draw to ensure their Liguilla berth, but after fighting back from a 0-2 deficit they were unable to prevent Pachuca from scoring a late winner. On the other hand, the margin of victory wasn’t big enough for the Tuzos, who miss out on the playoffs due to goal difference.

Pachuca’s chances of making the playoffs were slim, as they needed a win and some help, but they came out to play nevertheless. Jonathan Urretaviscaya opened the scoring early and then scored again in the 32nd minute to make it 0-2.

América rallied in the second half, with substitute Manuel Pérez reducing the deficit in the 67th minute before he then tied the game minutes later. The 2-2 draw would have seen América make the playoffs, regardless of other results, but Pachuca once again played spoiler.

In the 78th minute, Óscar Murillo headed the ball past Agustín Marchesín to return the lead to the Tuzos, who were able to hold on to the advantage.

With the 2-3 win, Pachuca reaches 24 points while América still has 24.
