Lobos BUAP beat FC Juárez 1-2 in Saturday’s Gran Final second leg to win the Clausura 2017 Ascenso MX title with a 4-2 aggregate victory. The victory gives Lobos not just a league title, but also a ticket to the promotion playoff against Dorados de Sinaloa for a spot in Liga MX.
Lobos had picked up a 2-1 home victory in the first leg, and they looked to hold that advantage here, while the Bravos pressed forward as they looked to tie the aggregate.
The hosts had the first opportunities, but it was Lobos who took the lead, with César Cercado’s 24th-minute header making it 0-1 (1-3 agg.) and also tying up the away goals.
Juárez immediately made a sub as the need for goals became even more urgent. In the second half, the hosts were able to reduce the deficit when Cristian Gordillo made it 1-1 (2-3) in the 73rd minute.
But with the Bravos throwing numbers forward in search of an equalizer, Lobos took advantage of the space to put the series out of reach. Omar Tejeda ensured Lobos’ victory with his 88th minute goal to make it 1-2 (2-4).
With the 1-2 (2-4 aggregate) victory, Lobos BUAP are the champions of the Clausura 2017 Ascenso MX.
