With both teams already eliminated from the playoffs, this game was just for pride. Puebla earned a 0-1 away win to end their season on a relative high note, although even with the victory they will finish the Clausura 2017 at the bottom of the table.
The hosts had the first good chance of the game in the 12th minute, when Josecarlos van Rankin got his head to the ball, but Israel Villaseñor made the save. Puebla responded with a chance through Carlos Orrantía, but Alfredo Saldívar made a good point-blank stop to send the ball out for a corner.
The breakthrough came just moments into the second half. In the 46th minute, Orrantía got free on the right and sent in a cross for Francisco Torres, who finished it off from close range to make it 0-1.
Pumas was ultimately unable to respond to falling behind, although they edged Puebla in shots and shots on goal, and the universitarios ended their season with a disappointing home loss.
With the 0-1 win, Puebla reaches 16 points while Pumas still have 18.
