After a 2-2 draw with Dorados de Sinaloa, which gave Lobos BUAP a 3-2 aggregate victory in the Final por el Ascenso promotion playoff, the licántropos have earned promotion to Liga MX for the first time in their history.
Dorados were looking to overturn their first-leg deficit, and it look them less than a minute to tie the aggregate. Moisés Velasco sent in a corner kick that Francisco Canales failed to deal with and the ball nestled into the back of the net. 1-0 on the night and 1-1 on aggregate.
It took Lobos a bit to recover from the shock of that early goal, but then they began to create chances of their own. Nevertheless, when the next goal came, it was for the hosts as well. In the 29th minute, Vinicio Angulo got free on the right and sent in a low cross for Gabriel Hacen, who made it 2-0 (2-1), putting Dorados ahead on aggregate.
But Lobos were able to reduce the deficit in the 36th minute, when Diego Jiménez beat Oliver Ortiz and then sent his shot to the near post, where he beat Gaspar Servio to make it 2-1 (2-2).
Just five minutes later, Lobos were ahead on aggregate once more. In the 41st minute, Amaury Escoto met a corner kick with a volleyed effort that froze Servio and made it 2-2 (2-3).
In the second half, Lobos looked to hold on to their aggregate lead, while Dorados needed to find another goal. Especially as time wound down, Sinaloa looked dangerous as they threw numbers forward, but BUAP was able to hold on to book their spot in Liga MX.
With the 2-2 draw (3-2 aggregate win), Lobos BUAP have won promotion to Liga MX while Dorados de Sinaloa will remain in Ascenso MX.
