Miguel Herrera Returns to Coach América

Ricardo La Volpe parted ways with América at the end of the Clausura 2017 regular season, after a final-day draw against Pachuca kept the Águilas out of the playoffs. Miguel Herrera was immediately rumored as the replacement, and today América confirmed “Piojo” as coach for the upcoming Apertura 2017 season.

Our coach for the Apertura 2017 will be Miguel Herrera. Welcome home @MiguelHerreraDT!

Herrera, 49, previously coached the Águilas from 2012-2013, winning the Clausura 2013 league title, before leaving to take charge of the Mexican national team. He returned to club soccer in 2015 with Tijuana, where he remained until now.

In his first stint with América, Herrera had a record of 44 wins, 23 ties, and 17 losses.
