Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio is set to miss the entire 2017 Gold Cup after the FIFA Disciplinary Committee handed him a six-game ban for his behavior in the Confederations Cup.
Osorio was determined to have “breached article 49.1 a)” of the FIFA Disciplinary Code when he vehemently protested a missed call in Mexico’s 2-1 loss to Portugal in the third-place game of that competition.
Osorio was also fined 5,000 Swiss Francs and given a warning.
Mexico will play between three and six matches in the Gold Cup, depending on how far they advance in the tournament; if they play fewer than six games, the remainder of Osorio’s suspension will carry over to Mexico’s World Cup qualifiers.
FIFA’s complete statement about the suspension can be found here.
