SuperCopa MX: Querétaro vs América – Recap and Highlights

Querétaro won the 2017 SuperCopa MX with a 2-0 victory against Club América at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

The Gallos Blancos got the scoring underway early, after Miguel Ángel Samudio was called for a foul in the box. Referee Erick Yair Miranda pointed to the penalty spot, and Emanuel Villa beat Agustín Marchesín to give Querétaro the 1-0 lead in the 13th minute.

After taking the lead, Querétaro relaxed and América began to see more of the ball, although the Águilas were unable to get past Tiago Volpi.

América also suffered a setback when Renato Ibarra had to leave the game in the 22nd minute due to injury.

In the second half, Querétaro found an insurance goal through Hiram Mier, who headed home a corner kick to make it 2-0 in the 63rd minute.

América tried to reduce the deficit and they very nearly did in the 80th minute, but Guido Rodríguez saw his shot hit the post with Volpi beaten, and that was as close as the Águilas managed to come.
