Apertura 2017 Week 2 Preview: Friday’s Games

Puebla vs Monarcas Morelia – 8:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Puebla (18th) had a dreadful start to the Apertura season as they suffered a 5-0 loss to León. The Poblanos will look to rebound from that in their first home game, but they will have to do so without the suspended Pablo Míguez. Puebla did pick up a win in midweek, though, where they beat Atlante 1-0 in the Copa MX.

As for Monarcas Morelia (12th), the michoacanos drew 0-0 with Monterrey in their season opener and will also be looking for their first league win of the season in this one. Like Puebla, Morelia picked up a win in their midweek Copa MX game, a 2-1 victory against Mineros. That game, like Morelia’s league opener, was at home, and they will look to keep their unbeaten streak alive in their first road game here.

Atlas vs Pumas UNAM – 10:00 PM – Univision Deportes
Atlas (2nd) opened their season with a 0-3 away win against León and they’ll look for a similar result when they return to the Estadio Jalisco for their first home game. They won there in midweek in the Copa MX, a 2-1 victory against Potros UAEM, and they’ll look to keep up the momentum in this one. Atlas was one of just two teams to score more than twice last weekend and they’ll look for a third multi-goal game here.

As for Pumas UNAM (6th), the universitarios beat Pachuca 1-0 last weekend and they too will be looking for a second straight league win in this one. Unlike Atlas, Pumas were inactive in midweek, and they will look to make that extra rest count as they look for a positive result in their first road game of the season.
